How does the Move It Challenge work? |
| To join the challenge, your class takes part in a fun physical activity event each week for six weeks. Each event earns the class move-it points (move-its), to reward you for being more active. You can find some ideas for challenge activities on p8-12 of this booklet. To run the challenge during a health week, hold one event per day then set pupils a sixth event (such as skipping) to do at home. |
Who is the Move It Challenge aimed at? |
| Move It is for all children irrespective of weight between the ages of 7-11. Move it encourages all children to not only exercise more but also to increase their lifestyle activity and realise that every little bit of activity contributes to a healthy, active life. |
Why should I support the Move It Challenge? |
| Move It is a fun way to make kids aware of the benefits of being active and encourage them to put this into practice - at school and at home - for the rest of their lives. We'd love to get as many kids and families moving as possible, so please pledge your support or send one of our e-cards. |
Why should parents become involved in the Move It Challenge? |
| Although the Move It Challenge has been introduced to your child at school, the whole family can benefit from being more active together. Children are not just encouraged to do more sport but also to walk more, clean up around the house and just generally be more active. |
What other programmes does MEND run? |
In addition to Move It, MEND runs two family-based schemes:
The MEND Programme (devised at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and the University College London Institute of Child Health) - this fun course for families with overweight children aged 7-13 helps children manage their weight and lead healthier lives. Families can enrol online.
The Mini-MEND Programme - also developed by experts in child health, this programme aims to help all 2-4 year olds and their families make healthier lifestyle choices. |
